OUT OF THE WAY
Lives in the menu bar on Mac, the system tray on Windows. Global hotkeys toggle the effect. Start at login and it's there every boot.
SMALL PRINT
macOS — unsigned dev build: right-click → Open the first time, then grant Screen Recording (the overlay can't see the screen without it).Windows — SmartScreen will warn: More info → Run anyway. Expected for a new unsigned app.
DRM video (Netflix, Prime, …) renders black under the effect — the OS protects those surfaces by design. Hotkey the effect off while streaming.
